Collingwood General and Marine Hospital
The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital provides a variety of health care services to the more than 60,000 people who live and work in the community. The hospital also provides essential health care services to more than 3.5 million vacationers and cottagers who visit the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Stayner, Creemore and the Blue Mountains.
Hospital services include: ambulatory care, cardio respiratory, community mental health, diagnostic imaging, dialysis, emergency, general medicine, general surgery, intensive care, laboratory services, obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation, and telemedicine. The G&M Hospital is a 68 bed facility.
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre
Just 50 Km from Collingwood the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with 40 per cent of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
As the largest health centre in Simcoe Muskoka, RVH provides highly specialized services, procedures and technology not found anywhere else in the region. This includes the only Interventional Radiology suites for minimally invasive surgeries, a fully-automated laboratory, cardiac care (intensive) unit, as well as dedicated trauma rooms in its large Emergency department.
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is also home to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre, meaning distance is no longer a factor for residents receiving lifesaving cancer treatment.
Collingwood and the surrounding area have a wide range of educational facilities that accommodates across all ages. Georgian College is a publicly funded College of Applied Arts and Technology in Ontario. With more than 125 career-focused programs Georgian serves 11,000 full-time students and 28,000 Part-time Studies registrants annually. The Town of Collingwood strives to enhance the quality of life and promote healthy living in Collingwood through access to a wide range of recreational, cultural, and active living opportunities. There is access to local history at the Collingwood Museum, promotion of arts and culture activities, access to public art programming and shows. Public swimming, as well as learn-to-swim programs are provided at the recently refurbished Aquatics Centre and recreational skating opportunities are available both indoor and outdoor. The town supports all users of Collingwood’s waterfront and harbour and maintains 24 public parks year round for public use and pleasure.
The YMCA has excellent facilities in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach offering a wide range of activities for all ages. Such as summer camp programming, after school and day care, lap and leisure pools offering a wide range of aquatics programming, hot tubs, fitness and wellness rooms and programming.
The South Georgian Bay region has developed over recent years to become a four season resort area offering fun, sporting and leisure activities all year round. Winter Activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and many more outdoor activities, central to this is the Blue Mountain Resort offering day activities and season passes along with seven or more private Ski Clubs who cater the their members needs for winter activities and providing exclusive facilities from the members to enjoy.
Summer time sees a wealth of activities available. There are lots of activities to do out on Georgian Bay such as boating, kayaking, water skiing and sea-doing. The extensive trail system opens up a world of exploration for hikers and cyclists who can hike and bike as far as Meaford on the Georgian trail or further afield taking the Bruce Trail.
With at least ten golf clubs in the region, the golf enthusiast can enjoy exclusive private membership only facilities to semi private courses allowing occasional play.
